Our Expert

After 52 years of academic practice in General Surgery, Dr. Way is now an Emeritus Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Currently, he maintains a regular schedule of participation in case discussions and medical student and surgical resident teaching conferences at the university.

Dr. Way’s clinical expertise is in General Surgery with special emphasis on surgery of the biliary system (including cholecystectomy and bile duct injuries), pancreas, liver, stomach, and hiatal hernia repair for reflux esophagitis (fundoplication). He has published extensively in these areas, overseen national Board exams in surgery, and has been a pioneer in laparoscopic training for practicing surgeons and surgical residents.

He is a nationally recognized authority in General Surgery and has given presentations on these topics at major surgical meetings and as a visiting professor at many medical centers throughout the world. Dr. Way has published several textbooks and over 230 peer-reviewed scientific articles on surgical practice.
